The Yarniacs: A Knitting Podcast

Gayle and Sharlene search for the ever-elusive perfect yarn for the perfect project. The Yarniacs Podcast is an audio podcast coming to you from the coast of California. Join us!

The perfect yarn.

Does such a thing exist? Every knitter has a favorite yarn. But every knitter knows that their perfect yarn is not perfect for every project. So we knitters tend to hold dear several favorite yarns. We have a perfect sock yarn. Or a perfect wool blend. A perfect yarn for outerwear. Sometimes even one skein of too-precious-to-use perfectly dyed yarn. (You know you have one!)

Once you have the perfect yarn though, you need an accompanying perfect project. But the perfect project is a dynamic concept--always changing and occasionally slipping away. Varying styles, colors, and seasons come into play. So the search is always on.

But we are willing to accept the challenge. The constant search for the perfect yarn, matched with the perfect project. Who are we? Two knitting besties in search of the perfect yarn. Bring it!

The Northern California Knitting Retreat--which Gayle and I have been working on behind the scenes for the past year--was a retreat in the true sense of the word. We got away from our normal day-to-day lives, spent time doing enjoyable activities such as knitting and visiting with friends, we laughed and relaxed. It was a first retreat experience for both of us and we enjoyed our little weekend knitting getaway. One of our favorite things at all knitting events, is seeing everyone's sweaters and knitting projects, and adding a few to our own queues. This weekend proved no different, and we came home wanting to match up yarns and patterns and cast-on something new. Now we are both struggling with some of our projects that have been on the needles and want to cast on those new shiny projects that have captured our attention! I am sure you, dear knitters, can relate to that new project longing!

We continue our stash chat--and in the spirit of "changing the culture of stash" share a little bit about what makes a particular yarn stash-worthy. As we curate our stashes it helps to give some thought to what sorts of yarns our stash needs, and what type of yarns we utilize most in order to add yarns that will find purpose and bring us happiness. If you haven't already, please feel free to join our stash chat in our Ravelry group, and share your goals and stash adventures.
